Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is the overall “back to health” program that encompasses a wide variety of treatments, including evaluation, stretching, manual therapy, in-office exercises and home exercise programs that treat both acute injuries and chronic conditions, reducing pain, restoring function, and preventing or limiting permanent physical disabilities.

My physical therapy includes manual therapy techniques, meaning I perform hands-on work for most of the session, to release the physical restrictions, tensions, and pulls in the body, and return tissues to ideal tension and alignment. Manual manipulation also allows me to help find and address the primary or root cause of the pain or limitation, in order to reduce or eliminate it, and ideally, keep it from returning.

At the end of the session, we use physical therapy to allow the body to "lock in" the newly achieved range of motion, and help your muscles and nervous system adapt to stabilize injured areas so that you can increase your level of everyday activity, and be able to perform additional at-home exercises to speed up overall healing.

Acupuncture uses needles, inserted in specific access “points” in the body, in order to restore overall energetic and physical balance. It’s been shown to be effective in treating pain, infertility, stress, disease and injuries as well as promoting general health and disease prevention.

Acupuncture can shift physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and energetic aspects of the body, and can be used in a variety of ways during a treatment, such as:

• Creating balance and harmony in the body, which leads to you feeling more connected to your body
• Strengthening your immune system
• Giving you an overall sense of well being
• Releasing mental tension and stress that accumulates in tissues over time.
• Decreasing muscle spasm and pain (with Dry Needling)

Acupuncture supports my hands-on work by bringing blood flow and vitality to areas that are being released,. It can also help release specific organs being treated. Because acupuncture accesses a different system in the body, it fits beautifully with manual therapy work, to get a more complete total-body healing.

In addition to using acupuncture to treat physical issues, I also use it for helping with emotional, mental, or spiritual issues. Life transitions especially can bring up feelings of being lost, unworthy, fearful or alone. Acupuncture assists in these transitions, helping to move through the energetic aspects of traumas or life changes so you can be your best selves.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy that uses hands-on techniques (no devices or machines) to manipulate muscles and joints. I use a specific technique called Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT), which combines many different forms of manual therapy to achieve the most effective, efficient and non-aggressive form of treatment.

Manual therapy is an excellent communication pathway between the practitioner and the patient’s body. Memories, traumas, emotions, belief systems and spiritual conflicts all live in the tissues and spaces between them. With experience, I've honed my ability to really listen to what the tissues are saying to me, to “hear” the stories of how it came to be in the place it currently is.

I not only listen to your body's messages, I share that information with you, so you can understand what is going on in your body. I’ll assist you in using visualizations to work on the different possible emotional or mental aspects that can show up as the tissues release. This process helps you to truly be aware and clear about what is going on in your body, so you can be an active participant in your own treatment and healing process.

Our goal is to tap into your body's innate wisdom and healing ability to release any tightness and restore ideal alignment and health. The body is an amazing protector. If there is a compromise in one area, the surrounding or related areas will hold tight around it. Quick surface adjustments may provide temporary relief but if they don’t address the underlying imbalances, the tightness will return.

With manual therapy, each physical manipulation of the affected body part helps it shift and change, until it is aligned and in its proper place. Since the root issue is addressed and then resolved, the body lets go of the compression and returns to a healthy state - and maintains the changes without having to repeat the same techniques on the same areas.

HeartMath is a unique and innovative multi-disciplinary approach to wellness that addresses the emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of the body. For more than 25 years, the HeartMath Institute has been researching the heart-brain connection, exploring how the heart influences our perceptions, emotions, intuition and health. By tapping into the power and intelligence of your heart – your heart’s intuition – you can actually influence your state of being, happiness, ability to handle and recover from stress, and more.

I personally use HeartMath to recover from triggers, regain calm after arguments or upsets, and connect to the best practices for myself and those involved. The process has taught me that emotions cannot be ignored. “Buried” emotions don’t go away; instead, they become stored in our tissues, creating pain and dysfunction. But when we bring compassion to what we are feeling and experiencing, when we own and acknowledge it, then we can do something about it. Awareness is key, since it’s hard to correct an imbalance you aren’t even aware of!

HeartMath provides that framework to acknowledge what is coming up emotionally, guiding us away from judgment and towards feeling and releasing intense emotions, leaving you empowered to find a solution that comes from a calm mind and relaxed state of being.

Energy Work

Energy plays a huge role in our health and well-being. When the energetic body is suffering or compromised, every other system is impacted: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Addressing the energetic system is essential to the healing process.

You may have heard of chakras, or energy centers in the body, Very well known in Traditional Chinese Medicine and other alternative therapies, these seven major chakras (and many minor ones) play a key role in maintaining your energetic body's health. When they are not balanced, it can affect how we process emotions and stress, and create physical restrictions around them. I’ve been trained to help open and balance the chakras, and clear the energetic fields to access higher levels of healing.

Lifestyle/Patient Education

Lifestyle choices are really what determines how well we feel on an everyday basis. I work with you to find your optimal lifestyle choices because every person is different.

We'll work together to find optimal lifestyle choices, including what diet works best for you. What we put in our mouth to nourish us is extremely important, as is how we eat. I'll teach you a few simple ways you can increase your ability to digest food, even before you start to chew!
Exercise is a also very important aspect of our life, and it should be enjoyable and nourishing to your spirit, not something you dread. I find many people exercise in ways that can hinder their health. We can discover fun ways to exercise and find any mental or emotional barriers that may be keeping you from your workouts.

Sleep is where we do much of our healing. During sleep, our body heals physically, and our subconscious processes our daily experiences and works through unresolved issues. I share techniques and suggestions on how to get a better night sleep.

Community is also a wonderful and essential part of our lives. We are social beings, but sometimes we can be too sensitive to other people’s energy, be afraid to be out in public, or not know how to engage in the world around us. We'll figure out the best ways for you to connect with others so that social contact supports and promotes your overall health, energizing rather than draining you.
